“Beyond the Dude Code”
A Philosophical Coaching Journey for Enlightened Men
You don’t need to perform to be a man. You just need space to get real, think deeply, and live on your own terms.

Why Listen to Me?
I was raised by a single mother in government housing on the South Side of Johannesburg, never knowing my father, growing up poor, and often bullied. At 17, my mother—an abusive alcoholic—kicked me out of the house. I found myself homeless, so I hit the streets with no high school diploma, no job prospects, and no map for how to survive. I turned 18 in the military. After that, I worked the doors of some of the most dangerous nightclubs in the city, surviving violence, including an attempt on my life and learning firsthand what it takes to stay alive in a brutal world.
For over 30 years, I’ve taught fighting skills to people who needed it most—from everyday students to elite special forces, SWAT teams, and close protection units. If anyone has earned the title 'Alpha Male,' it’s me. But here’s the truth: everything I teach now stands in direct opposition to the performative masculinity I was once praised for.
My journey led me to this work—helping other men question the scripts they’ve inherited and rediscover who they really are.
Being a man isn’t about dominance, control, or never showing weakness. It’s about wisdom, presence, integrity, and the courage to live with heart in a world that tells you to harden. I’ve lived both sides. And I’m here to show you another way. A way that will enable you to show up in life calm, present, focused and resilient.

The Crisis
Men are hurting. Not because they’re broken—but because the models handed to them by modernity on how to 'be a man' are often rooted in fear, control, aggression, or emotional repression. The 'manosphere', the epitome of 'Dude Culture', promises certainty, power, and control. But it doesn’t lead to inner peace, connection, purpose or authenticity.
The Alternative
What if being a man had less to do with domination and more to do with grounded, mindful presence? With learning how to suffer well, speak truthfully, love courageously, and act with meaning that positively uplifts lives all around you?
Why Philosophical Coaching?
You don’t need fixing. You need space to think, reflect, and reconnect with who you truly are meant to be.
Not therapy. Not self-help hype. Not a perverted version of Stoicism. A return to wisdom—lived, practised, and embodied.
What Men Are Saying

— James R., former corporate exec turned social entrepreneur
I came to Rodney thinking I needed to ‘man up.’ What I actually needed was to break free from the toxic scripts I’d been living. Through philosophical coaching, I found clarity, self-respect, and a sense of grounded purpose I hadn’t felt in years. No hype. No ego. Just truth, wisdom, and a path back to myself.

— Mark T., father of two, recovering from burnout
I’ve done therapy, I’ve done coaching—but nothing hit like this. Rodney created a space where I could be brutally honest with myself without shame. He didn’t tell me what to do. He helped me ask the questions I’d been avoiding my whole life. For the first time, I feel like I know who I am—and more importantly, who I want to be as a man.

— Lucas B., veteran and former security contractor
I thought I had to be tough to survive. Rodney taught me how to be real to truly live. Coming from the military, I wasn’t looking for soft answers. What I found with Rodney was something far deeper—an invitation to grow, not just perform. He challenged me in ways no one else has. And I’m better for it—not just as a man, but as a human being.

More About Your Coach
Rodney is a certified Philosophical Counsellor (APPA), life coach, independent researcher, martial arts teacher— and someone who’s spent a lifetime walking through fire and turning it into wisdom.
With a PhD in Mindful-Embodied Leadership and a Master’s in Nature-Connectedness, he has worked with everyone from Fortune 500 CEOs to combat veterans to curious creatives, helping them navigate life’s hardest questions. He brings together philosophy, embodiment, and nature-based practice in a way that makes wisdom real, usable, and grounded.
Think of him as a modern-day philosopher who’s just as comfortable in hiking boots as in a lecture hall. And yes—sometimes he still wears a tweed jacket.
Coach Rodney believes the best of philosophy happens when life gets messy. That’s where he will meet you—in the raw, real terrain of becoming fully 'HUman' again.

There are few people I’ve met in life who have as much passion about helping others as Rodney. He cares deeply about getting people results. That’s not easy to find these days.

Booking Your Sessions
(Read more on 'How it Works' and 'Confidentiality Agreement' at bottom of this page)
-
CONFIDENTIALITY & ETHICSAs a licensed Philosophical Counselor, I abide by the American Philosophical Practitioners Association Code of Ethics. Before we begin any sessions together, you will be asked to sign my informed consent agreement so you can be confident that what we explore together remains between us (this includes any email discussions, WhatsApp or similar, and of course in our actual sessions either in person or virtually).
-
WHAT IS A TYPICAL SESSION LIKE?Each Philosophical Counseling session is unique and adapted to your personal needs. Think of our session as a meaningful, relaxed conversation—with a clear purpose. We’ll start by exploring whatever's on your mind, identifying your central questions or concerns. My job is not to diagnose you or hand you easy answers, but rather to guide you in examining your thoughts, assumptions, and beliefs through a philosophical lens. Sessions typically last about 40min and feel like talking to a thoughtful friend—one trained to ask the right questions, offer practical insights, and help you get unstuck. Whether we're sitting across from each other in person or connecting online via Zoom, expect a comfortable, confidential, and judgment-free environment where genuine dialogue meets real-life wisdom.
-
IS A SESSION ALWAYS 'JUST PHILOSOPHICALLY INSPIRED'?Not at all! While philosophy forms the core of our conversations, I believe in a holistic approach. Depending on your needs, we'll also explore practical tools such as mindfulness techniques, embodied practices, breathwork, or even "walking philosophy home" in nature—literally, if we’re meeting in person! As a certified coach, my goal is to ensure you leave every session with practical strategies you can immediately apply to your life. (Think deep conversations meet actionable insights—with room to breathe, move, and reflect.)
-
IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO BEFORE EACH SESSION?Yes—but don't worry, it won’t feel like homework! Sometimes I’ll suggest brief exercises, reflective practices, or thoughtful readings to explore between our sessions. More importantly, before we meet, I'll ask you to give me a quick rundown of what you'd like to cover or what's most on your mind. That way, I can ensure our session is focused, valuable, and tailored precisely to you. This quick rundown needs to be in 48 hours before our next session. Failure to do so will likely require us to reschedule your next session.
-
MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN A QUIET, COMFORTABLE SPACE FOR VIRTUAL SESSIONSDo I need to be in a quiet, comfortable space for our session? Yes, please ensure you're somewhere quiet, private, and comfortable, especially if our conversation requires confidentiality or sensitive reflection. Headphones or earphones are helpful to maintain privacy and enhance clarity. Being in the right environment ensures you can fully engage, feel safe sharing openly, and that our conversation remains productive and uninterrupted. (Plus, it's hard to tackle big life questions with noisy distractions!)
-
HOW MANY SESSIONS SHOULD I DO?There's no one-size-fits-all—everyone's journey is unique. However, I recommend starting with weekly sessions to build momentum, dive deeper, and experience real progress. Once you find your rhythm, we can adjust the frequency as you see fit. Many clients find that one session per week initially provides the best clarity and growth. Ultimately, the pace is entirely up to you. (Though I'll gently nudge you toward weekly at first, because consistency equals clarity!)
-
PAYING FOR SESSIONSSessions need to be paid in advance before we meet. You can conveniently pay via Wise, PayPal, credit or debit card (I'll send you an invoice), or even good old-fashioned cash if we're meeting in person. (One less thing to think about during our chat—so we can focus fully on you.)
